Trauma
Trauma can change the way you experience yourself, other people, and the world around you. Sometimes it follows a single overwhelming event. Other times it develops more gradually through experiences that were repeated, relational, unpredictable, or difficult to escape. You may know that something is over and still find your mind or body responding as though part of you is back there.
Trauma doesn’t always look dramatic from the outside. It can show up as anxiety, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting, irritability, shame, hypervigilance, or a tendency to disconnect when things become overwhelming. You might notice yourself avoiding certain situations, struggling in relationships, or reacting more strongly than you expect without fully understanding why. Sometimes the impact is easier to recognize in patterns—perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-criticism, or feeling responsible for keeping everything under control.
Therapy offers a place to understand these responses without treating them as something wrong with you. Many of the patterns that feel frustrating in the present developed for a reason, often as ways of protecting you or helping you adapt to circumstances you couldn’t fully control. Together we can begin to understand what those responses are trying to do, create more safety and flexibility in the present, and work through experiences that continue to carry emotional weight. I offer virtual trauma therapy to adults across Texas.
My approach to trauma is integrative and paced carefully around your needs. We might explore protective and vulnerable parts through Internal Family Systems (IFS), look at how attachment experiences have shaped your relationships and sense of safety, or use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices to work with patterns that keep you feeling stuck. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I may also incorporate EMDR Therapy when distressing memories or experiences continue to feel especially active in the present. For clients seeking deeper experiential work, I also offer in-person Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Austin.
Trauma can shape your life without having to define it.
I offer a free 60-minute consultation so we can talk about what you’re going through and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
